Vannieres 'Heritage' Rouge, La Cadiere d'Azur Mont Caume 2021

from $20.99

Chateau Vannières ‘Héritage’ Rouge

Absolutely one of the best wine values I have tasted in the past couple of years! This wine deserves your dinner table.

Way out southwestern France way is Provence. Provence beautifully sits on the Mediterranean, with high mountains exploding from the sea. It is on those mountains, in terraced, water facing vineyards, where Bandol wines are grown. Mouvèdre (moo-ved-rah), Grenache (grah-nosh) and Cinsault (sin-so) are the permitted Bandol grapes. They make bold, rich, mountain juice. The Boisseaux family own amazing Bandol vineyards. From those vineyards, which can be pricey, the father, Eric Boisseaux, makes their Bandol wine. The family also owns vineyards alongside their Bandol properties. Good news, those vineyards aren’t as expensive. That is where the fruit for this wine comes.

You could kinda say this is Bandol light, as in light on the wallet. Yet make no mistake, there is nothing light about this bad boy when you’re drinking it. It has a lush structure that belies its price tag. The winemaker for the ‘Héritage’ is the son, Charles-Eric Boisseaux. So dad makes the wine from the more expensive vineyards while son makes the more affordable juice. Yet Charles-Eric may be the better winemaker. Jean-Eric’s ‘Heritage’ is made from 95% Mouvèdre and 5% Grenache. It’s all mountain fruit that yields a pleasing, concentrated drink of swirling, wild berry flavors, leather, subtle herbs and a rich, peppery finish. It’s big yet it’s welcomingly drinkable. Fire up the grill, throw on a steak, and enjoy it with a Vannières ‘Héritage’ Rouge!
