I’ve spent over 30 years chasing one thing: good wine, shared well. Not in a highbrow, collector-only kind of way—but in that magical, everyday sense where a bottle brings people together and kicks off a great night.

Back in 1999, I opened Grape Vine Market in Austin—a wine, spirits, and gourmet foods shop that quickly turned into something more. It became a community hangout, a place where curious drinkers could learn, taste, and find wines that actually meant something. That mix of education, hospitality, and good taste has stuck with me ever since.

Over the years, I’ve worked with restaurants, retailers, and hospitality teams to build beverage programs that spotlight wines with real stories behind them. The goal has always been the same: make wine more accessible, more personal, and way less pretentious.

Zócalo is the next chapter in that mission. It’s built on the idea that wine should be fun, welcoming, and full of personality—just like the people drinking it. Whether you're here for recs, conversation, or just a damn good bottle, I’m all in.

I come from a long line of New Braunfels folks—generations deep. This town helped raise me, fed me, and taught me the value of a good story, a shared meal, and the importance of showing up for your people. I’ve done my best to return the favor, whether through public service or just making sure there's always another chair at the table.

I’ve spent almost three decades falling in love with wine—not in the bougie, “I detect hints of graphite and crushed oyster shell” kind of way, but as a companion to food, conversation, and community. Wine, to me, is a connector. It’s less about tasting notes and more about who you’re drinking it with.

Before Zócalo, I spent years in corporate leadership at a Very Big Company. That experience sharpened my brain, taught me how to build systems that actually work, and gave me a deep appreciation for thoughtful, intentional service. But my heart’s always been in the gathering—bringing people together over food and drink, where stories unfold and bonds get stronger.

Zócalo is a love letter to all of that. To New Braunfels. To the weird magic that happens when you crack open a bottle and pass it around. To the idea that wine isn’t just reserved for pretentious assholes—it’s for everyone. Whether you’re wine-curious or wine-obsessed, we’re here to help you find something that tastes damn good and feels even better to share.
