Luigi Oddero ‘Convento' Barolo

$54.99

This is a poised, authentic, honest Barolo from Luigi Oddero. With 35 hectares under vine, the winery is large in Piedmont measurement. The big production has allowed the winery to sell off a portion of its harvest. Oddero reserves the best juice from the best sites for their own wines. Such is the case with this bad boy. The juice is pulled from parcels around La Mora and the wine is named Convento. The name Convento (convent) is a nod to when the winery was originally a convent in the early 1600’s.

The juice delivers everything you want from Nebbiolo. There’s all kinds of cool things happening in the wine. Inviting flavors of dried rose petals, sour cherry, and red currant, layered with notes of anise and subtle spice. Hints of dried herbs and forest floor add complexity as the wine breathes. The acidity is bright and lifted and it carries the flavors throughout the drink. The oak in which the wine was aged is only Slovanian and neutral. So the wine shows as firm and polished, without a ton of wood overwhelming the fruit.
