La Massa ‘Primo Georgio’

$109.99

There is no getting around it, La Massa is great! The ‘Giorgio Primo’ represents the best of Giampaolo Motta and the majesty of his estate’s grapes. He named this wine for both his grandfather and his first son. It was grown in Panzano. Panzano is Chianti Classico’s epicenter for amazing wines. Though Chianti is all about Sangiovese, this a Supertuscan that utilizes the Bordeaux varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petite Verdot. At 1200 feet, the vineyards for the ‘Georgio Primo’ are among the highest of the zone. All the organic grapes are picked and sorted by hand. The winery is entirely gravity driven so there is no energy utilized against the juice during production.

On the palate, as the winery, it moves with the gravity of something timeless. Power is there, but it is sculpted and graceful. It offers a velvet strength wrapped in tight knit, underlying tannins. The fruit feels dark and ripe, yet held in balance by freshness, like ripe figs resting beneath cypress trees. Tannins unfold slowly, like pages of an old book, firm yet refined, leaving behind traces of spice, mineral, and quiet warmth.

The finish lingers the way a memory does after a long walk through the countryside. And like a long walk, it conjures comforting, contemplative thoughts. The Giorgio Primo does not rush; it invites stillness. There is so much beauty here and the wine itself cannot wait to reveal it all with patience and intention.

If you are a collector, this is a must have for your cellar.
