Cuvelier 'Los Andes' Malbec
Cuvelier Los Andes Malbec, Valle de Uco, Argentina
Seriously tasty Malbec at an affordable price can be elusive. Odd given it is Argentina’s most famous grape. Seems a magic trick to find the good ones. Well, tada, here you go. Cuvelier Los Andes enchantingly appears with big ol’ blackberry, plum and vanilla flavors. The winery is named after the Cuvelier family who are located, yes that’s right, in the foothills of the Andes Mountains. The family hails from Bordeaux, France where they have a long history of winemaking excellence. That’s great ‘cause the Malbec grape was born in the Bordeaux region. 7th generation winemaking brothers, Baptiste and Guillaume Cuvelier, labor in pictorially captivating, biodynamic vineyards, creating a wine that reflects both the family's French heritage and the unique terroir of the Andes.
That unique terroir is the premier Argentinian winemaking region of Valle de Uco. The vineyards of Valle de Uco sit at high altitudes and grow in pure mountain air. The region’s alluvial gravel and chalk soils offer unique mineral characteristics that contribute to wines of intense color, fresh acidity and honestly fresh fruit. The fruit just offers an exuberantly bold drink that is perfect with a steak. That’s also good ‘cause Argentina is famous for its cow meat. Yet don’t let that stop you from popping a bottle with grilled lamb or pork, and/or any game meat you enjoy. Then there’s the amazing pairing with blue cheese. Such a tasty drink!
Serving suggestion: Open and put in fridge for 15 minutes. That tiny bit of coolness will mute the alcohol and allow you to more fully enjoy the fruit.
